Pictures from the Braggin’ Board – January 10, 2010
PLEASE Send us some recent pictures! Just attach them to an e-mail with a short explanation to sales@gloomis.us and we’ll make sure they are posted on the “Braggin’ Board”. We will also try to get them in our newsletter.
Gunther Van Ginneken holds a winter pike caught from his float tube. I believe both Gunther and the pike are smiling!
My pal Jarvis seems a bit confused at what happened to the rest of his fish. One word; SHARK!
David Osterman holds one very nice flounder caugh of the Texas shore line. Great eating tonight!
Gunther Van Ginneken is a far better man than me fishing from his tube in freezing weather. And, he catches some great fish!
Jonathan Wilson is a real pro as evidenced by these stripers from Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.
Seth Brown shows off just one of his “tournament winning” largemouth bass.
Mike Klofas holds one of two nice 36 and 42″ redfish caught on his G. Loomis GreenWater rods!
Terry Ellwood holds just one of many fish caught “down under” in North Queensland while on a 7 day houseboat fishing trip. Gee, it looks SO warm down there!
Gunther Van Ginneken in full gear ready for action.
Jonathan Wilson holds another nice striper caught in Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.
Davis Osterman holds a HUGE sea trout. This had to have been a great fight!
Jarvis has his hands full with this beauty from the Maldives. I want to be there in that WARM weather!
Leland Foley holds one nice largemouth caught in 20 degree weather on Kentucky lake in December. You CAN catch nice fish in winter, but Brrrrrr!
Matt Brumwell displays a limit of nice redfish caught on dead shrimp on Big Lake in Cameron, LA on December 13th. It took about 2 hours to catch this nice limit!
Gunther Van Ginneken shows us one of his zander (walleye) caught on that freezing day. Would this be a “frozen fish”?
Terry Ellwood holds another nice fish from his houseboat fishing trip.
One more very nice striper from Jonathan Wilson’s Smith Mountain Lake trip.
I thought this was an appropriate last picture given our current weather. Check the upper right hand corner of Gunther’s fish finder. 2.4 degrees C. What a man!
That’s all, folks! How about your fishing pictures? Send them in to us!

Fishing Videos – January 10, 2010We have two great videos this newsletter. Our first video was sent to us by our pal Bob Daly. If you ever wanted to Peacock Bass fish then take a look. Bob has traveled all over the world fishing and these bass are some mean guys:
Another awesome video we received was one sent in by Donald Crowe. Don caught
this sail 15 miles offshore Huatulco, Mexico. Fight was about an hour. He landed it with the help of a Daiwa Saltist 50 with 50lb mono. Don caught it dragging a dead Ballyhoo no more than 40 feet from the back of the boat. This is one of FOUR! Take a look: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?v=app_2392950137&ref=name&id=522924623#/video/video.php?v=125598209623 So, where are your videos? We can use more! It’s really easy. Just send us a link to the YouTube video you have posted or whatever web server you use and a brief story about the video. After that we’ll take care of it!
CHOOSE THE PERFECT FISHING BOAT……….We found a great article in Take Me Fishing’s web site that we think is very useful. Too often we forget the basics and proceed on to the minutia. This article gets back to the basics you need to consider when contemplating such a large purchase. Unfortunately it does not provide any guidance on how to justify this to your spouse……………. Here it is: Buying a boat can dramatically expand your angling horizons and open up a world of recreational opportunities for your family. But, as with any major investment, you should be diligent in your shopping approach. To hone in on the boat that perfectly matches your fishing interests, ask yourself these five key questions:
When you answer these questions (and also factor in where and how you plan to dock, store and maintain your boat), you can start looking for options with different hull designs, engines and other accents that best fit your budget. Here’s another hint: The many consumer boat shows that take place in winter months are the perfect places to see different models, and more importantly, ask some qualified boat experts specific questions about your needs and interests. Moreover, if you are on the verge of buying a boat, some of the best deals anywhere can be found at these shows. American Legacy Fishing Company – NEWS FLASH – January 10, 2010“World’s Best Fishing Gear – World’s Best Service” Free T-SHIRTS for ALL, EMMA the PUPPY, EVERGREEN RODS, CHOOSING A NEW BOAT, Lots More….
John Michael Vine shows off a gourgeous rainbow trout caught from Avington Fishery in Hampshire, England. This rainbow came in at 14lb. All caught on G Loomis rod and reel
Hi friends,
Winter is upon us here in southern Indiana. We haven’t had temperatures above 30 degrees for 2 weeks. Nighttime temperatures have been in the single digits. All of the lakes are thick with ice and we are beginning to see skating parties now and again. We had snow the last 2 days and, although it wasn’t much accumulation, it’s not going anywhere soon. Tonight we’re supposed to be at zero and next week just more of the same. So much for global warming, at least in southern Indiana!
The day before Christmas Eve we welcomed our new puppy, Emma, to our home. If you recall from our earlier newsletters Emma is one of the puppies born at the same time our 13 year old golden retriever Jessie slipped away. Emma is now 10 weeks old and a bundle of fur, love, joy, and awkwardness. Although she will never replace our beloved Jessie, she’s pretty special. Our 11 month old Hanna (a white golden retriever) has found a new playmate. Emma may see Hanna as more of a challenge than a playmate. We have already had some loud, painful yipes from both. Emma’s “needle teeth” vs. Hanna’s 50 lbs. Fun to watch. With our first real snow this last Wednesday Emma had the chance to experience real winter for the first time. I don’t know about you, but “first experiences”, whether they be with our kids, grandkids, or in this case our puppy, are wonders to behold. There’s just such a marvelous innocence and honest awe with our kids or pets that makes these very, very special moments.
And Emma did not disappoint. Her first reaction was wide eyed wonder as she walked out the front door and stood on the porch. Then we had apprehension, caution, investigation, exploration, confirmation, and finally elation. What a wonderful moment. Our innocent puppy discovering snow for the first time. And in that moment I think Dixie and I discovered once again just how beautiful a child’s innocence and honesty is, whether that child be one of our own, a grandchild, or a little puppy like Emma. True beauty is found in the simplest of acts or situations.
As you might expect, Emma is now firmly entrenched into the Ashby household and quickly discovering many new things. Things such as the tassels on my favorite pair of loafers (since removed), the support slats under our mattress (teething material for sure), the corners of some of our furniture (I will wait to touch up), and worst of all, Dixie’s hair brush (since disassembled). The only thing she seems NOT to have discovered is the newspaper for potty training. But, we’re working on that.
And so it is in the middle of this southern Indiana winter we are being entertained by a puppy and her antics and innocence. I like that. She gives us unqualified love in infinite quantities. The best gift she can possibly offer. Just like Jessie…
Fishing here is a challenge for now, but in no time we’ll be back on the water. Until then we’re cleaning and lubing our gear and getting everything ready for the first warm breeze we feel. We have some great deals this newsletter along with some new products as well as restocks of products that have been in short supply. There’s some industry news and other features we’re sure you will enjoy.
As always, thanks for your continued support and confidence.

G. LOOMIS NEWS……………….. 2010 Catalogs: Although we very much disagree with the decision, G. Loomis will no longer be printing any catalogs. Starting in 2010 all Loomis catalogs will be in an electronic format (i.e. internet or DVD) which is great if you have electricity and a DVD player or access to the Internet. Not so great if you don’t. As of December 1, 2009 we are in the 2010 model year. Small problem is that the electronic catalog media is not ready yet. Hmmmm, seems that the best laid plans of mice and men…….well, you know the rest. We have been told the “new” Loomis web site will be “up” by the middle of February. We assume they mean February 2010, but that’s just an assumption. What to do? Well, we list EVERY CURRENT G. Loomis rod on our web site, so if you have electricity and internet access you can see every G. Loomis rod and accessory. If you do not we will be happy to send you a 2009 Loomis catalog along with a 2010 model addendum (our creation) while supplies last. Sweatshirts (Hoodies): Finally, these are back in stock in all sizes. Both the Charcoal and the Brown Loomis sweatshirts are available and can ship immediately. If you tried to order one of these during the Christmas season you know we (along with every other Loomis dealer) were out. After having had this happen last year (2008) we assumed this would be fixed and there would be adequate supply for this Christmas. Obviously we were wrong. But, we have them now and would be happy to accept your orders along with our apologies for being out earlier. 2010 Rods and Accessories: Great news here! Everything is IN STOCK and ready to ship immediately. The new 2010 Fly Rods, Casting Rods, Spinning Rods, and all accessories. The new Walleye rods are spectacular and feature many models in GLX. The new ProGreen saltwater rods are just wonderful rods. I have used several models and continue to be impressed. LIVE TARGET LURES SCORE BIG with TACKLE TOUR…………..

Hi Friends,
Although we are closed today, Christmas Eve, I am setting here at my desk in the store doing some last minute paperwork and “hiding” from my wife, Dixie, as she goes about preparing the Christmas Eve feast. After almost 44 years I’ve learned that I have 2 choices: Get caught up in the hustle-bustle of preparing a meal that can’t possibly be completely consumed by those who will be at the house later or, find some chores to do that will make sure I am not under foot nor in my lovely bride’s way. I have chosen the later.
So here I sit thinking about Christmas and all that now goes along with it. As typical Americans, we have taken something pretty simple and expanded upon it to make it a far broader event. And that’s not bad. Christmas brings out the best in most people. We seem kinder, gentler, and most importantly, more charitable. That’s really important this year with the tougher times we are all experiencing. Even the poorest person seems to find a way to share what little they have during the Christmas season.
Now, it is the “eleventh hour” for all of us who haven’t bought the last present, still need to make one final trip to the grocery market, have just a few presents to finish wrapping, or whatever we have waited almost to long to complete. Yet everwhere I went today people seemed at ease and less stressed than they seemed the last 2 or 3 weeks. Perhaps we all realize today that all of our activities are about to complete and we will once again be able to focus on the true meaning of Cristmas without distraction.
So, I am going home and enjoy our family, our tree, our decorations, and most importantly God’s gift to us all. Thanks to everyone of you for your continued confidence and support. May all of you have a most wonderful and meaningful Christmas.
Merry Christmas,
Tom Ashby and the Crew at American Legacy Fishing Company
